The Recon Tour - Monster Army

Thanks for the Memories

Nov 29, 2016

"The Recon Tour started from a simple idea to help identify new talent in the amazing world of BMX and create opportunities for the vast talent pool in the amateur scene. It started in Southern California 4 years ago with a 3-stop tour in San Diego and expanded into a nationwide event very soon after.

The mission was simple; discover, support and progress the best up and coming athletes in BMX. In doing so we were able to identify some of the biggest new names in BMX, and gave opportunity for amateurs to qualify into a professional event where they competed against their heroes.

Athletes such as Colton Walker, Jake Leiva, and David Lieb, all started their careers from the Recon Tour. Nick Bruce did the world's first ever Flair Windshield Wiper at the Recon Tour that led to his social media boom, and helped solidify his name in the BMX world. It was amazing to see Brett Banasiewicz come back from his injuries and compete in an event with his friends and watch his progression get better year after year. The Recon Tour provided an event platform unlike any other that was fun, easy going, and got the BMX industry to support each other once again.

As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. With the BMX industry continuing to struggle and corporate sponsors finding it hard to justify the investments they've made to support the sport, it is with great sadness that the Recon Tour will not be continuing.

We want to take this opportunity to thank every athlete that has supported the Recon Tour, every parent that encouraged their son or daughter to follow their dreams, every skatepark that let us come in and host our event, and every person who believed in our vision to help grow the sport of BMX. Huge thanks to Monster Energy, and all our sponsors over the years for making this event possible and giving BMX a stage to perform.

From all of us at Hookit, we sincerely appreciate all of the memories and will continue to find ways to support and progress the up and coming athletes via the platform. All riders are encouraged to connect with all the brands who will continue to support the athletes via product support and grassroots sponsorship."
